Simon Fraser University’s Campus Bookstore Now Accepting Bitcoin Payments

posted in: Regional News

SFU BookstoreTextbooks and school supplies are now available for SFU students to purchase using Bitcoin at all of SFU Bookstore locations. In addition to providing their customers with the ability to pay with Bitcoin, the bookstore has also installed Bitcoin ATMs at all three of its locations.

Mark McLaughlin, the SFU executive director of ancillary services, said that the decision was made as part of an effort to increase conversation about innovation on campus. He went on to say, “The only way to have an opinion about digital currencies is to learn about it, and we are providing a firsthand experience in that regard.”

A promotion will be held on May 27th and 28th marking the ATM debuts at SFU bookstores in Burnaby and Surrey. The first 100 customers who spend CA$20 or more in Bitcoin will receive CA$5 gift cards.
